The restaurant Cherdak (“Attic”) is located on the third floor of an old townhouse on Kuznetsky Most, right above another Arkady Novikov project, the pan-Asian restaurant Mr. Lee. “What’s most important at Cherdak is not the food but the atmosphere,” says the restaurant’s managing partner, Mikhail Petukhov. “It has no concept, no design idea that’s adhered to down to the last detail.” Everything is simple—every knick-knack and accessory, whether it’s furniture from the Arkhangelsk Province, old-fashioned lampshades, or a restored red Soviet television. The things at Cherdak were owned and used by past generations, and now they live here.
