Name
The name of the restaurant is directly related to its concept. It’s the second Barashka in Moscow—the second restaurant serving delicious Azerbaijani cuisine from Arkady Novikov.
The history of the name is this: About six years ago, Arkady decided to open an ethnic restaurant with a menu of strictly one national cuisine, one that showcased all the culinary traditions of Azerbaijan. It was thought that it would be called “Barashek”. But with time, it was decided to Europeanize the traditionally heavy Azerbaijani cuisine—lighten it, stylize it—and, together with the change in preparation methods, there came a change in the name. As a result of the transformation, an endearing new word was born, altered in gender and origin—“Barashka”.
Concept
The new Barashka, in essence, has the same concept as the first Barashka that opened on Petrovka Street five-and-a-half years ago. It is a cozy restaurant that serves delicious, home-style Azerbaijani cuisine, expertly adapted to the European palette.
One of the new restaurant’s main assets is its excellent location on one of the city’s central thoroughfares, which is buzzing with life day and night. This difference in location is the main reason why the average check here is somewhat larger, 65 euros, than at the original Barashka on Petrovka.
In spring and summer, there is outdoor seating available with space for 60 people. The furnishings—wicker chairs, potted plants, flowers, beige drapes, snow-white tablecloths—are very simple, light, and elegant.
