Syr (“Cheese”) is, it could be said, the most famous Italian restaurant in Moscow. Its head chef, Mircko Zago, is a favored contributor to all the best food publications and culinary TV shows. And there are reasons for all of this. The restaurant Syr opened its doors in June 2001, and since then, it has been full of and beloved by guests the entire time. What’s the secret? It’s quite simple—people come here as though they were coming to see dear old friends. And, indeed, friends are present—fellow admirers of the head chef’s talents and of traditional Italian cuisine, and, of course, other worshippers of the delicacy savored around the world since time immemorial—cheese.
Entering the first floor, you find yourself in a space the color of sand, with myriad paths and small windows—as though you have walked inside a giant wheel of cheese. At each table setting you then find a copper pot with a circular yellow booklet inside—the menu. And inside it are antipasti, pastas, different kinds of pizza, soups, various meat and fish dishes. And the great star of the gastronomic show—cheeses.
All this splendor is worth trying accompanied by splendid wines, carefully selected together by the head chef and sommelier. Wines from Italy and France make up the bulk of the assortment—countries where the creation of cheese and wine are no less than national art forms.
