Arkady Novikov registered the company Agronom on February 14, 2002.
The enterprise’s opening was preceded by meticulous preparation of the space it currently occupies: Thousands of cubic meters of industrial waste were trucked away, greenhouses were constructed, modern climatization and irrigation systems were designed and installed, the most cutting-edge water filtration systems and packaging equipment were purchased, refrigeration equipment was designed and installed in the warehouses, and refrigerated delivery vans were purchased.
Beginning in 2006, the renovated agricultural complex began running at full capacity, with crops being grown on all six hectares of soil. The resulting fruit and vegetable production was branded with the name Novikov, under which it has become well-known on the market.
Five hectares of the enterprise’s land are currently occupied by cucumber and tomato plants, which in the Moscow Region grow from March to October. On the remaining land, artificial light supplements the insufficient sunlight of the winter months to facilitate the growth of produce during the period of September to April. This technology allows the enterprise to deliver its customers wild and standard (garden) strawberries, as well as lettuces, all year round.
About 100 people are employed by Agronom, more than half of whom are growers who work in the greenhouses. The growers work practically from sunrise to sunset, and some of the specialists work in shifts, but on the whole, crops are cultivated year-round at Agronom, meaning that the complex is active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
